Qiantang River (2024)

Role
Director Assistant
Duration
1h 32m

The Qiantang River, also known as the “Rakshasa River,” has long been defined by its violent tides, shaping the lives of those who dwell along its sandy banks. Jiang Pingyuan, a young man who attempts suicide, is swept by the current into Taoyuan Village, where he meets Old Jin, driven by obsession; the defiant elder Uncle Fu; and a hopeful young girl. He witnesses their struggle to protect their last remaining farmland, rebuilding seawalls again and again despite repeated failures and fragile hope. The embankments are raised once more, only to be struck by a typhoon. After the storm, covered in mud, Jiang glimpses the legendary Tidal Tree. Through poetic visual language, the film unfolds an epic of land-making rooted in the landscapes of Jiangnan.
